The new song ”Pearl of the east” is about the daughters of The Pearl Of The East. The lyrics and music came to me after a day at one of the asylum camps where I work. All day I had been looking into the eyes at all these women with their children who has fled from their homelands. Beautiful people now struggeling to learn the language, create a life in a new country still worrying about asylum and about family members still stuck in their old countries. I can´t even imagine what they have to go through. Damascus goes under the nick names ”Pearl of the East” and ”The Jasmine”. The lyrics could also be about all the women and children I meet from countries like Eritrea, Somalia and Ethiopia. I know many ”Pearls of the East”. Even one of my favourite places in the world, east Berlin is a Pearl Of The East, today a free and peaceful country and city. Anyway… This is a song about refugees and the oldest capital city in the world.
